William Anelay was appointed principal contractor to restore and refurbish this Grade II Listed Georgian property. The Vicarage which was commissioned by the church in 1834 was constructed to a very high standard and since then very few alterations have been made and so many of its original features remain intact.
Internally the building underwent a major refurbishment incorporating access for all facilities. Works consisted of full mechanical and electrical throughout including under floor heating on the ground floor and the installation of a lift shaft. Joinery works involved the refurbishment of timber floors and where necessary sash windows and shutters.
Structurally the building layout remains unchanged other than the widening of the doorways. An unsympathetic ground floor extension was removed and replaced with a traditional lime brick orangery which has a pitched glazed roof.
Externally the lime brick work was cleaned. The existing Westmorland slate roof received minor repairs and new lead work to the ridges. The hipped flat-topped roof was replaced with a Sarnafil covering, the four chimney stacks was re-pointed and the stone guttering was sympathetically restored and re-lined without detriment to the original stonework.
The project was completed Summer 2011.
