Preston Hall Winter Gardens Museum, Stockton on Tees:

Client:   Council of the Borough of Stockton on Tees
Architect:   Atkins Design & Engineering Solutions
    Quantity Surveyor:   G Mallory
    Contract Period:   27 weeks

Preston Hall was built in 1825 with a Victorian teak conservatory added in the 1880’s. The Hall was opened up as Stockton’s first public museum in 1953 however the conservatory had not been used for a number of years due the poor state of repair. The Museum had been negotiating for funding since 2001 and in 2006 was awarded a grant from The Heritage Lottery Fund with some capital investment from Stockton Council.

The project involved the restoration and reconstruction of a teak Victorian conservatory in its original style using traditional techniques. Works include substantial glazing replacements, timber roof and frame repairs, extensive redecoration and the replacement of stone cills.

The Conservatory was completed and formally re-opened by Botanist David Bellamy in February 2008.
