Units at Thorp Arch Trading Estate, nr. Wetherby:

Client:   Trustees of Rockspring Hanover Property Unit
    Architect:   LHL Group
    Contract Period:   16 weeks

Thorp Arch Estate near Wetherby has had a colourful history over the years. During the Second World War it was used as an Ammunition Site contributing towards the war effort. Since then, the Estate has provided a thriving environment for businesses large and small and is now home to a broad spectrum of industries with firms ranging from small businesses to large international concerns. The Estate spreads over 380 acres and provides employment for over 2,500 people.

William Anelay was appointed to carry out demolitions of one and the refurbishment of a second unoccupied unit on the Estate. The works commenced with demolition of the first unit.

Much of the building material was recycled and used as hard core for an access ramp and car park facility for the second unit next door. The second unit was of brick construction with asbestos roof. The asbestos material was removed and safely disposed. The underlying rafters and purlins were reused and the roof and brick fabric was clad in plastisol-coated steel. The property has been fitted with a new steel and galvanised roller shutter doors. Internally the unit is fitted out to provide office facilities, a canteen, changing rooms and toilets and was completed Spring 2010.
